Committee

Katie – Chair
A lifelong swimmer and adult onset triathlete with 10 years of competitive triathlon experience.
One of my proudest moments was winning overall lady at Epicman 70.3 triathlon 2024 — a milestone that reinforced that consistency, good coaching, and self-belief work.
I’m the Chair of Macclesfield & District Triathlon Club (MAD Tri) and a Group Coach–qualified coach, supporting athletes across swimming, cycling, and running. I love coaching athletes of all abilities. Seeing someone grow in confidence, develop skills, and achieve things they once thought were out of reach is what motivates me.
The community at MAD Tri is so important and through the club I’ve made lifelong friendships.

Mark – Welfare Officer
Hi, my name is Mark Wheelton & I’ve been a MadTrier for the last twelve months, having come to duathlon (sorry I don’t swim!) from years as a runner and cyclist.
My proudest moment was qualifying as a GB Age Grouper in Sprint Duathlon in 2023 (although injury prevented me competing). I’m now proud every time I stand at a race start line in our amazing eye catching MadTri kit!
The club is probably the most friendly and supportive I have been a member of, which is why I recently agreed to be the club’s new Welfare Officer. My role will be to work with members in a confidential & supportive way any time they feel that they need to chat or raise an issue. I’m retired so am always available!

Mairi – Treasurer
Years in triathlon: 14 years
Proudest moment: competing in my first triathlon after learning to swim at 45.
Love about the club: the laughs and fun during the group training sessions and seeing members grow in their ability and confidence

Nikki – Secretary
I’m Nikki, Madtri’s Secretary, and have been part of the club since it formed in 2024. I have been competing in multi-sport events for 9 years, even getting my spaniel involved when I can.
My proudest moment in triathlon is representing GB as an age grouper in the European Duathlon Championships.
Being part of the club over the last 2 years, I have loved seeing the new friendships that have formed between members along with the support and encouragement that is always offered in abundance.

Ben – Social Events
Hi I’m Ben, Social Events Lead for MAD Tri. I joined MAD after seeing an ad at the gym and decided to have a break from chasing marathon times and give something new a go. Roughly one year on and I’ve not looked back!
I threw my hat in the ring when the opportunity arose to be social lead as I was keen to contribute something back to the club and my local community. I’m responsible for putting on fun events outside of training to help build our community. I’m also a Swim, Bike, Run (SBR) Lead for the club, and lead the occasional guided group ride or run!

Gary – Social Media
Name: Gary, 38 from Dublin 🇮🇪
I’ve been competing in triathlon for 4 years, completed first sprint in 2021 and first half-ironman in 2022.
My proudest triathlon moment is just maintaining the lifestyle and enjoying the training, being fit and healthy and ensuring my son grows up in a house where sport is normalised!
I help with the social media pages for the club along with other members!
What I love about MAD Tri is meeting like-minded people, running & cycling through the Cheshire hills, cafe stops, early morning swims, nights away for races and feeling fit and healthy!

James – Social Media
Hi everyone. I’m James. I’ve been in the triathlon world for nearly 18 months now. My proudest moment in triathlons was finishing a standard triathlon in the summer of 2025 despite really struggling to swim and hardly ever rode a bike just 6 months before.
I help run the social media platforms for the club which include posting regular updates, medal Mondays and responding to all enquires on the social media pages.
The thing I love most about this club is how supportive everyone is and if you ever need help or advice there is always someone who is willing to give you a hand.
